August 8 was National Happiness Happens day. Founded in 1999 by the Secret Society of Happy People as Admit you’re Happy Day. Happiness happens was created to spread the joy of being happy and to persuade people to look on the brighter side of life. Seeing the glass as half full not half empty and making lemonade out of lemons. Happiness is contagious, so if you are happy tell someone.
Here are some things that happy people do to make life better for themselves and everyone around them:
They are Nice
Happy people are well liked and pleasant to be around. They are respectful, warm, considerate and helpful. They don’t get jealous or waste time gossiping and complaining. They have a lot of patience and give freely of themselves.
They are Honest
True happiness can’t co-exist with lies. Happy people know who they are and are not afraid to show it. They are true to themselves.
They are Cooperative
They recognize the efforts of others and freely share their joy and success
They Have Beautiful Smiles
Happy people smile with their whole body. They find humor in almost any given situation. They laugh out loud too. Studies have shown that a mere smile can help reduce overall stress.
They are well adjusted
Happy people revel in life’s small pleasures. This gives them access to sources of joy that past most people by. They know what is worth savoring and what to disregard. Happy people have a rationale sense of scale to keep them grounded.
They Surround Themselves with Happy People
Happy people do not often stand alone. Glee is contagious!
They are Spontaneous
Happy people tend to live in the moment. They do not harp on past experiences that can’t be changed or worry about a future that they do not own.
They are Good Listeners
Happy people are committed to constantly learning, and they know the only way to do this is to be quiet and listen.
They Expect Less
This mindset allows a more sustainable and unmaterialistic approach to life. Their happiness comes from within, not from deeds or objects that are outside the self. They are more likely to accept not demand because acceptance is a much happier place to be than one of constant unmet demands and needs.
They Do Not Judge
Happy people accept that all people struggle with different weaknesses, and everyone has the potential to figure things out in due time. Happy people are better and more patient companions than those who judge others for their weaknesses
How to observe National Happiness Happens Day:
- Do something nice for yourself. Happiness starts at home
- Make someone else happy by doing something nice for them. Small acts of kindness can go a long way.
- Be happy and feel free to share it use #HappinessHappens and post on social media all the things that make you happy and at peace. Let others know to do the same. This will encourage people to send happy, joyful and uplifting messages to people at home and all over the world.
