I have painful burning sensation during sex but not all the time. I have noticed when I am highly aroused then it causes no pain. It takes over an hour for me to get aroused sufficiently, hence sometimes I get tired of the foreplay and we insert it say after 30 mins of foreplay then it causes burning and pain.
We are trying for pregnancy and got preseed lubricant. I couldn’t insert preseed applicator even thought I was highly aroused. I never fingered myself before so few days back I tried inserting my finger after getting aroused and my finger would not go in past 1 inch either.
Husband has low motility and morphology so despite trying since 2+ years we have not been able to get pregnant. I got HSG done and had extreme burning sensation when speculum was inserted, any slight movement during to procedure was further tightening up my vaginal walls. It was too difficult to remove speculum as my vaginal muscles were tightening up.
Next step is IUI for us. I want to get rid of this pain that speculums cause. What can I do?
Do I even have vaginismus if I have no burning sensation after I am sufficiently aroused.November 24, 2015 at 4:57 pm #13949mazemelissaModeratorI do think it is possible that you have vaginismus, but would need to do an exam to confirm. The burning sensation accompanied by penetration can be related to the vaginal muscles being extremely tight. I think that when you are extremely aroused, you are releasing the tension in the vagina, which makes penetration possible and not painful. I would encourage you to seek out a pelvic floor physical therapist, or get a good set of dilators to start using. You can also give our center a call to discuss treatment options, or come in for an evaluation if you are in the area. http://www.mazewomenshealth.com

I think working with vaginal dilators here could really, really help. I have used both the Pure Romance ones as well as Pacik Glass ones and love them both. In an earlier post that I wrote this morning, there is a detailed description of each: http://www.vaginismusmd.com/support/vaginismus-md-forum/?mingleforumaction=viewtopic&t=1077.0#postid-5734
Another idea is to use a vibrator prior to intercourse. I have used the Lelo Liv and highly recommend it. http://www.vaginismusmd.com/aidsproducts/vibrators/lelo-liv-vibrating-dilator/

I despised the speculum while having vaginismus and an exam was impossible due to the excruciating pain/resistance. There is a great thread that I wanted to share with you concerning our thoughts on the Speculum: http://www.vaginismusmd.com/support/vaginismus-md-forum/?mingleforumaction=viewtopic&t=255.1 One thing that helped me so much following my procedure with Dr. Pacik was to actually wear the vaginal dilator to my ob/gyn appointment and remove it prior to having the speculum inserted. In doing this, I was stretched so well that it did not hurt at all having it inserted and removed.
I also would definitely contact Melissa at Maze and work with them in any possible way. I know they are offering an out-of-town option to treat vaginismus. My husband and I tried for several years to become pregnant but were not able to until this past May. I alternated using the syringe method along with having sex during the dates I was ovulating. http://www.vaginismusmd.com/support/vaginismus-md-forum/?mingleforumaction=viewtopic&t=1046
Please know that I am here to support you every step of the way. Sending you huge hugs!!!

I will try the tip of using dilator before doctor’s appointment. I think it will take a long time for me to be able to insert dilator. Currently even a 1 cm diameter preseed applicator does not go in.
I also see in your links that your did at home IUI type thing. Would this work for low morphology and motility? Was your husband’s semen analysis normal?

December 1, 2015 at 2:34 pm #13978mazemelissaModeratorHi Arshee,
Our center does not accept any insurance plans, but if you have out of network benefits, you might be able to get some or most of the treatment covered. If you are interested in coming in for an evaluation, I would encourage you to call the office directly to speak with the office staff. They can check your benefits for you and give you a better sense of the cost of treatment. Our number is 914-328-3700.

Hi Arshee. Definitely let me know how it goes with using the dilator in advance. I did the at-home insemination and my hubby did have low morphology as well as motility discovered after fertility testing at MGH. Sending you big hugs and support. :):):)
