Vaginismus comes in many shapes and sizes, and it can come after years of not ever having had an issue with painful sex. Menopause can change how a women’s body functions in many ways. Tissue and muscle tone can all be affected, and sex can become painful. And sex should never be painful, so whether it is vaginismus or something else causing that pain, please do have it checked out by a healthcare professional as sex should never ever hurt.

Thanks for speaking to painful sex in menopausal women. What we want women to know is that there is treatment and you can have a fulfilling sex life for life!

I see so many patients with this issue, and they were afraid or embarrassed to mention it to their gyn provider. By the time they come into the office, time has passed and the issue has progressed. Patients are always so excited to find out that this is a very treatable issue, but feel frustrated that they suffered so long with it. Talk to your provider if you have any symptoms, and if they don’t help you, find someone that will! Help is definitely out there.
